I need help with my rest of season schedule. I will be on vacation (9/8-9/19) during the 21 miler and am having trouble figuring out what I should do. My brother is getting married this weekend, so I will miss Saturdays's run, but am planning on doing my long run on Sunday/Monday. Should I run 18-21 miles on on Sunday/Monday?
A little background. I am a yellow runner. I ran 21 miles at the 18 miler. I ran hood to coast last weekend. I am a little leery to run a 21 miler this coming weekend, as it is so close to hood to coast. But at the same time think that running one when I get back is way too close to the marathon.
This will be my 4th marathon, so I know what I am in for.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

StephB,
Your question sounded similar to the post by Lisa, in the following link:

I didn't re-read hers, so I don't know if the specifics align, but she did have concerns regarding the timing and length (3 weeks vs 4 weeks) of the taper.

Obviously, we all face unique circumstances, but until one of the coaches chimes in, you might see if the responses in her post help you at all. If I read the schedule correctly, yellows ran 11 miles this weekend? So, you ran a little longer (HTC) and split up the distance. I guess I'd see how the week goes and determine if you feel recovered enough come this weekend. Otherwise, you are going to end up short on the taper.

Good luck!

Steph -- We generally urge caution about doing the 21 miler too close to HTC, but if you run next Sun or Mon it will have been 8 days or so. Barring any specific injury issues, I'd say that's plenty of time for you to be recovered from HTC. The fact that you are an experienced marathoner also gives me confidence that's the right thing to do. Of course, if you could do the 21 miler on your vacation, that would be another approach but I could understand you wanting to get it out of the way sooner. Best of luck,

I would not sweat it too much.
In other words, I think that you are ready for the marathon if you just do some good running between now and then. Do some faster running.
But to overdo your long running at this point may exaust you for the 'big race'.
why not save yourself for a good effort on Marathon day.
You are not going to loose your training so don't worry. Don't be too over zealous in your long runs at this point.
But don't listen to me. i am only a lowly slob. smile.gif
