I was wondering if anyone knew of a running group that continued after the Portland Marathon. I am training for the Seattle Marathon and I would like to keep up my long runs on the weekends with a group. Any ideas?

As we get closer to Portland, you will see posts about individuals wanting to continue through the winter. I never got to train with them last winter, but I believe they were pretty dedicated at getting together at least one of the weekend days. Winter training does wonders for that:

I believe both Portland Running & Walking Company and "the other guys" have weekend sessions you can show up for?

Watch for the posts coming to a discussion board near you!

Hey JK.....

Great question! Last year was my first year running, and I too wondered about what to do after Portland. There is an ad hoc group under the name of StayFit that meets on Saturday mornings at 8 am rain or shine (or sleet or snow). We strictly follow the 10 minute rule - if you are not there by 8:10, we are gone.

People show up that want 3 mile runs up to 8 to 10 mile runs on a regular basis. This really is a chance to meet new people and to run without all the heat of summer. :-) (Can you tell that the heat affects me?) ;-)

You will see some postings about Stayfit in late September and that will clue you in on where we will meet. I woulndt be surprised to find that we meet at a different location this year. The place last year, posted the parking lot that they would tow "unauthorized" vehicles. I expect it will be somewhere downtown within a mile of the esplanade.

Hope to see you there.

PS watch the sidewalk...sometimes it actually grabs your shoe. :-)

Hi JK,

I am in the same situation as you are. I am training for the New York City Marathon in November. As Doug stated, StayFit is a terrific way to continue on running with a group. I did that for a couple of years.

As a suggestion, I would be happy to join you on the weekends preceeding the NYC Marathon. I plan to run the Portland marathon as my last long run at a much slower pace. Then, I will taper from there until NYC.

There are other folks also running NYC and other marathons later in the Fall. Maybe we can get a group going...

Take care,

I am going to be on an airplane coming back from Rome when the Portland Marathon happens so I have signed up for Seattle...Looking for partners for running once I return from Italy.

I too am thinking of doing Seattle (see my other post about it), but have questions. I am a slow runner, but would love a partner to trian with on the long runs. I am slo doing Portland this year though, so I may end up only doing Seattle's Half marathon. i will have to see how things go, and if it is possible to train for both.
