Full Version: Getting back into the swing of things

Hello,

I've been out of the swing of things since Helvetia due to a tendon strain in my left knee. I probably should have slept in the morning of Helvetia but I just couldn't help myself. This is my first go at running and I just had to try. Well, after three miles, I had to listen to my protesting knee and walk the remaining miles dry.gif

I've since been resting it up and working with my chiropractor to do some strength training and rebuiling. I'm hoping to get back into my running shoes next week at least for the short runs during the week to test things out.

Do any of you coaches have suggestions for how I work back into the long runs? I had been feeling great up to 10 miles...it was the 11 miler in the Vancouver deluge that got me! I don't want to hurt myself again but I'm not quite ready to give up on the PDX marathon since there's so much time left to train. Any experienced suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
LisaGT
I don't have suggestions for working back up to miles but wanted to comment on quite the coincedence. I too suffered a strained gluteus medius after the 11 mile deluge in Vancouver. I rested the week before Helvetia and then completed the half marathon in a decent time though longer than my goal and then was in the Clearwater office Monday morning! My running partner also experienced a slight injury to her hamstring on the same run.

I was wondering what affect the water soaked shoes had on our bodies. Does anyone have any comments on that?

I don't have a solution either -- but I suffered from big time ankle/lower shin pain after the super rainy day trek the week before Helvetia. I stretched A LOT that week and was able to do Helvetia in better time than I anticipated...but that rainy day training was AWFUL. I am hoping for a sunny 11 miles this weekend cool.gif

Hello to you all.
I am hoping you have all received some guidance from your coaches regarding your recent posts.

Good luck to all on the 15 miler this weekend. Be rested and continue to hydrate. We at Clearwater are looking forward to hearing all your stories.

Have a great run/walk!

Dr. Greg
