I have developed some blisters since the first 9 miler in Forest Park...I pierced them but every time I walk, either during the week or on the long ones, they fill up w/ fluid again. I am getting very nervous about being out on the 10 miler this Saturday and having one tear on me. I'm trying the double sock idea for tonight's minutes, but does anyone else have any advice? I don't want to miss this Saturday because I am planning on the Helvetia, so I need these to go away quickly...please help!!!

I swear by the Band Aid brand blister cushions. They help the skin heal and protect it from friction while you run/walk. You can get them at any drug store.

Here is a link so you can see what the box/product looks like:

I don't have any suggestions about how to get rid of your current problem but will suggest you take a second glance at the kind of sock you are wearing. The only time I got blisters was when I was wearing cotton socks. I now wear only technical socks and haven't had a problem since. Good luck.

I use body glide on my feet religiously. I have discovered, though, that Body Glide doesn't take care of a blister on my left instep (I've never had blister with PRC socks before this year), so I've tried the Blist-O-Ban patches that Dave recommended. So far, so good. Good luck!

How was your run today?

I went from 2 blisters to 6! I wear Nike dri-fit socks and also wore some blister covers on the 2 existing ones from PRC but they fell off. I am in a 1month old pair of shoes that are identical to my previous pair...I might go back for awhile. I will dry different socks, older shoes and the bandaid brand blister covers.
thanks to all for the information and advice.

I did just want to say to hang in there. I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (10 years ago now) and got 12 blisters on the first day! unsure.gif But I kept on and finished the trail 5 months later, and yes, I had a couple of blisters even on the last day. I think some of us are unlucky that way.

For me blisters are a function of heat. My feet get hot, I get blisters. Primarily, I get them in the area where the bottom of my heel meets the outside of my foot, where the skin kind of wrinkles and compresses as you step. Because it's not a rubbing blister there was very little I could do to prevent it. So, impossible as it might seem try to keep your feet cool when training, walk on shaded trails or early in the morning. Some hikers I knew swore by sandals, like chacos or tevas.

That being said, my husband swears by duct tape...which does not work for sweaty feet like mine. Good luck!

I have some Nike ultra thin running socks and they always give me WAY more blisters than cotton socks! I think they are just too close fitting, they cram all my toes together and don't leave any room for expansion and movement while I run. Very weird. I've heard great things about the PRC socks, but I have never tried them. Are your blisters between your toes or are they elsewhere on your foot? If between your toes, perhaps you need a bigger shoe size. In one of the earlier seminars they spoke about distance runners/walkers actually need a whole sizer bigger shoe than they think fits in the store. There is so much "wiggle" room needed once we get out there on the pavement for miles and miles at a time. I'm new at all of this, so this isn't an expert talking. I'm just trying to help brainstorm a solution. smile.gif Good luck!
