Full Version: Returning after a month off

A combination of travel and illness resulted in a month off of training for me. I'm in the red group. I want to come out on Saturday and do a walk/run combination but walking may dominate and I'm afraid that I will lose the pack and end up lost by myself.

The farthest run I've made is 6 miles.

Is anyone else doing a half run / half walk type of training and if so are you in the red or purple group?

Advice?

I am in this exact same predicament. I want to come out Saturday, but because of my month off I am wondering if it wouldn't be better to run by myself?

I'm really disappointed in the lack of response to this one. I saw you had a similar question and have been checking to see if anyone responded to you as well.

I'm going to go Saturday and do a walk / run hybrid. If I lose the group completely, well I guess I know Portland well enough that I'll find my way back to my car by myself.

erinrune,
Keep your head up! As a general rule runners should never try to make up mileage. Strap on your shoes and run what you feel comfortable with. You see, lost is a state of mind. Think of it more as an adventure. And remember, there is a Purple Group that walks. Your chances of getting left behind are slim to none.
Get some rest, get some breakfast, and get some miles on those rusty go-sticks.
See ya out there!

If you're worried, just show up and go out with the later starting purple group (I think 6:35am tomorrow). You can still do a run/walk with them. That way you'll have purples in front of you (the earlier starting ones) and purples behind you and you won't get lost. I suggest the Purple group because Red and Purple may not be taking the same route tomorrow. If you go out with the reds and get left behind then you might end up alone I guess. Anyway, I went out walking with the Purple group when I was recovering from an injury and there were a few run/walkers out there, too.
