If it happens that you are forced to miss several weeks approx (4) due to illness(s), but not physical injury what is the best approach to get started back up again?

I am a first year runner. I have had a myriad of health issues over the last several weeks, and now feel I am almost 100% and would like to start back up on my training. How do I determine what is the best way to get started back up.

Missy Lane,

Here easy and simplified way to gauge returning to training. Do 50% of what you were doing before you were sick, wait 1 day and if no problems go up to 75% on your next workout. If 75% feels OK then return to 100% of workout. Should there be any issues at 50% or 75% repeat that level until you feel ready to move up. I hope this is helpful. Good luck with your training please let me know if there are any glitches.

Cheers,

Dr. Bryan
