I am having pretty severe pain in my left knee behind the knee (along the left hand side). I have had some knee issues in the past because of a tight IT band but never like this. I ran the Cinco De Mayo Half on the 2nd and then ran the Tuesday after which is when the pain started. I have been cross training and icing since. Even walking has become pretty painful.

I am 5'5", 145 pounds, this is my third year with Portland Fit. I have been stretching and using the foam roller. Any thoughts and/or suggestions? Should I go see a doctor? I am continuing to train so that I don't lose my endurance but am not sure if that is the best idea.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Anne,
Sorry to hear about your knee. Do you feel any swelling behind your knee? Is there a large "outpouching" of swelling behind your knee? Can you feel the issue if you stretch your hamstrings? What about when you stretch your calfs? Is walking painful? Sqatting?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dr. Greg
