Wow, I was hungry after all the running this week. I've notice I have lost a few pounds since I started running this year. I'm pretty thin, and I don't want to loose any more weight.

What should I be focusing on in terms of diet?

Are there any good books on this subject?

PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN
Long distance runners (especially you, since you are losing weight) are generally burning fat as your primary energy source. At least you want to be, but that is whole other discussion. You also burn glucose, glucose from the small amount that is readily available from your diet and glucose that is stored in your muscle and liver. If you are using this secondary energy source then you are essentially burning through muscle, plus you have muscle wear and tear from propelling your body across long distances. So to make a long story short you need to eat lots of protein, think at least half your body weight in grams of protein per day. I should say if you have any pre-existing medical condition this may not be a suitable diet. Aside from that, if you are not worrying about your weight then eat proteins that also have healthy fats such as nuts and seeds. And of course the majority of your carbohydrates should come from fruits and veggies.
Pay attention to your cravings. If you are starving after runs and craving sweets or simple carbs then you are probably pushing yourself too hard.

Hope that helps and feel free to ask for more specifics/ideas if you need.

I love my protein shakes. Easy to digest. They make me feel right after the long runs and vigorous workouts. Remember to replenish those reserves within an hour of working out. As expected the Max Muscle crew is very knowledgeable and thorough, with two convenient locations. Please support our sponsors.
Cheers,
