Full Version: new to running and knee stiffness

Hi,

I've been running for about three weeks now and road biking alternately at times. I've been improving quite a bit, but I've been having some tightness in my inner knees that worries me.

I think I first overdid things when last Saturday I rode about 13 mi through some pretty hilly terrain. The next day when I tried to go for a 20-min run I had that tightness in the inner knees and just walked it rather than push it. The next day (Monday) I took off, and I've been gradually building back up since then.

Now it seems a bit better, but still tight. Once I start running, though, it loosens up with no problems, though it's stiff if I start walking then running again, and sometimes it just feels a bit tingly or numb. It doesn't really bother me outside of the exercising, except a bit of stiffness going up and down stairs.

Any advice is definitely appreciated.
Dr. Jake
Charlener,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. It has been about a month now, how are things going? Are you still haveing troubles? The tightness you are describing sounds like it may be some pes anserine tendonitis due to tight of hamstrings. What is your height, weight and running pace? How much are you stretching? Do your knees get tight after cycling?
I will look for your response.

Cheers,
Dr Jake
