I was stung two weeks ago by some sort of bug on my leg. It turned into an infection and I just started a course of antibiotics today. My doctor has recommended very limited activity especially leg work. I told her about my marathon and she approved me for it as long as the meds. work. How is this break going to affect my marathon? This is my first marathon and I did complete the 21 miler. Is there an alternative exercise that you could recommend so that I am not completely unprepared for race day?

THANKS!

The goal right now is to control the infection and stop any potential spread...particularly systemically. The antibiotics are hopefully doing their job....however, be aware they are also affecting your stomach/bowel flora. This can lead to tiredness, diarrhea, upset stomach, etc. I don't know the extent of the infection, but it's best to lay low and not get too much blood flow going. Maintain stretches and diet. Consider some probiotic supplementation.

The marathon will be here soon enough, just try to avoid anything to make the condition worse.
