Graston is a "tool assisted massage technique". Various shapes of steel are used to help smooth out fascia and muscle issues. Practioners must use "Graston" tools....they cost $300 - 700 depending upon whether you get a student discount or not. There are three modules of instruction, followed by an examination. All around the fee of $2000.
Through centuries, a technique call "Spooning" used.....spoons to do the same work. Gua Sha is an Asia form of the same thing.
Much like ART is to "active pin and stretch"", Graston is a well manufactured, packaged, monitored, and popular modality that closely (if not is identical) to other traditional forms of massage work. Like any "system" its only as good as the practitioner. I am aware people have had great experiences with it.....I've also seen the aftermath following not so good treatments from other practioners. They took lots of time to heal.

In the last week I've heard 2 people mention Graston Technique for their ailments.
They're running special bars over the booboo's and owies.
I guess if you're the patient it totally sucks but is worth it.
Like it hurts so good?
