Hello - I wrote three weeks ago about being diagnosed with mono. I did my two weeks of bed rest and then I went back to work with non-sweat-breaking exercise last week. Including the week before I was diagnosed, I have not ran for 4 weeks. I ran yesterday (Monday) for the first time and I feel pretty jiggly (not sure if it’s fat or loose skin or what). I ran about 3 miles and then walked, run, walked, run to complete my 5.5 mile loop.

I'm wondering how I go about getting back on schedule. I understand the listen to your body and I won't push it beyond what it is ready for, but I'm ready to accomplish the goal I set and paid for! When do you think I will be able to join the Saturday runs? Should I start coming back knowing that I will/might be walking parts of the runs? Thoughts on what my process should be?

Thank you,

Michelle

Michelle,
After being diagnosed, a follow up visit with your physician should have been scheduled, if not discussed. The diagnosing physician is responsible for releasing you back to your "return to play ready status". Complete resolution of Mono may take several weeks, if not months. The course of the illness needs to be assessed, then a plan of attack can be made. It would be irresponsible to start suggesting what you should do if your body is not ready for it.

Be patient, make a follow up with your Dr., then we can make a plan. My hope is you are doing well and the Doc will send you on your way...more importantly, if not, proper care must be taken to ensure your health and safety.

Dr. Greg
