Sally Edwards is quite the speaker. I really enjoyed her presentation and the chance to ask specifics about HR Training (HRT). Unfortunately, the seminar focused more on HRT, and not specifically on Triathlon Racing & Training. That was O.K., because I still came away with new some information, different testing protocols for determining zones, and exposure a newer technology that's available for teams and group settings.
When we signed in on Wednesday night, we were all provided a chest strap that was linked to a character name such as Shrek, Apollo, Crow etc. We were then linked to the Suunto Peripheral Observation Device (POD), which is capable of tracking up to 42 coded transmitters in a range of up to 100 meters. Your real time heart rate was then displayed on a big-screen monitor via a laptop connection. This meant the class was interactive. And fun! We did different "exercises" to see how heart rate was affected and what changes occurred. Nothing really new for me, but I found the on-screen monitoring to be pretty cool. Check out this video clip on how it's used in a club setting:
Suunto Team PODSo, not what I was expecting for the seminar, but not a waste of time either. Sally has been around for quite some time She knows her stuff, is up to date on the latest research and technology, walks-the-talk and presents the info in a very dynamic way.
She still competes to. She is also sponsored by Danskin, and participates in each Danskin Women's Triathlon and volunteers to be the Official Last Place Finisher. That way everyone else
can't say they came in last, but they
can say they beat Sally Edwards.

When she comes upon the last gal, she simply says; "Hi, I'm Sally!" She says most women reply; "Darn, I
really didn't want to see you!"
I should be receiving a newsletter from the
heartzones.com website now and then. If I see something of interest or clinics in the area, I'll post it here.
Have a great off-season!!
