This was sent to me by a friend of mine. If the logistics are sound for the venue selected, I could definitely get behind it and support it. Think about a 3 ~ 4 hour drive to participate in a Branded Ironman!

Ironman Oregon Story

What do you think?

And what color would the M-Dot be? Tie dye? Flannel Plaid? Overcast Gray? Moss Green? Hefewiezen Gold? Salmon Pink? Rust? Pasty White? I could go on folks...biggrin.gif

I would definately support this and volunteer/participate in the event! After being at IMCDA I think Forest Grove will have a real challenge in being able to accomodate not only 2000+ athletes but the 1000's and 1000's of spectators. It would be a magnificent event just as long as it isn't a multi loop bike, run (being more than 2 loops). Could you imagine riding around Hagg Lake approx. 9 times? blink.gif I don't think they would do that.
Let's hope that we could have a Ironman that close to home!

Randy do I see a new tattoo in your future?

I think Hagg Lake as an IM location would be a disaster. Randy's right about where you would put the athletes and the spectators just in terms of housing (I'm sure Portland is the answer) but imagine the logistics of getting all those spectators and athletes to and from the race venue for the practice swims, banquets and then on race day.

I would love to have an IM near me but honestly I wouldn't be supportive of one at Hagg Lake, besides IMO you can't get much awesomer of a venue then CDA smile.gif

Bonnie is spot on with the beauty of CDA. It would be nicer to have IM a bit closer but CDA isn't that far and dare I say......... Much much more beautiful.

Initial reaction is NO WAY at Hagg Lake. I cannot imagine it working, but I will reserve final judgment until the routes are shown. Very interesting concept of having one in Oregon.

Chatted with several folks this weekend about the three venues under consideration, and just can't see it working well at any of the three. Just the fact that many accommodations are within walking distance at the current Ford branded IM venues, puts a huge logistic burden on siting an event of this magnitude anywhere in Oregon. I can't see it in Eugene or Bend either.

You could do an Ironman distance event at Pac Crest, but you'd have to limit the number of competitors.

Just my opinion. smile.gif
