Full Version: Pop in foot when walking!!

After today's run, I could barely walk! I got home, took off my shoes and heard a pop in my right foot.
I had immediate pinprick like pain. Now it's just a dull ache, almost like a bruise on my heel. It's on the right outside of my heel on the bottom.

I haven't experienced pain in my feet before but today's run really wiped me out. I am 5'7" and weigh 165. I run in a lightweight running shoe with no real stability. I haven't had any issues with my shoes in the past so I'm not sure if they are related. I have high arches but haven't experienced any problems before.

I keep hearing about orthotics but not sure if that is what I need. This could be a one time issue due to today's run but not sure??

Just had to say that the pain is now intense and I cannot bear any weight. Obviously I need to see a doctor but may not be able to get in immediately. Any advice?

Martier,
When you heard the pop initially were you just taking off the shoes or did the shoes come off and then you stood up and heard the pop? Is the pain on the outside of the foot next to the heel bone or is it on the bottom of the foot near the arch?
From the sound of it you may have a bone in your foot that is out of place. A bone called the cuboid that articulates with the calcaneus (heel), tarsal and metatarsal bones has a tendency to drop down, especially with people who have high arches. When the bone drops down it can strain/sprain the capsule that holds it in place. The best solution is to have it adjusted back into place and have Ultrasound and E- Stim done to reduce the inflamation. This is followed by cuboid pads placed in your shoes to prevent it from dropping down again. If the cuboid pads decrease your symptoms then you might be a good candidate for custom orthotics.
Let me know if I can help any further.

I took the week off and bought some Biosofts thinking this would help. I started running this morning and got a mile out and felt a sharp pain in the bottom of my foot. The pain is on the outside of my foot next to my heel bone versus on the bottom of my foot. It feels like I have a very sharp knife in my foot. It isn't constant. I can run a few steps but then out of nowhere, the sharp pain attacks me.

I am so disappointed and frustrated. I have a doctor's appointment but cannot get in until June 12th. From your initial diagnosis, this sounds like a few weeks of therapy and recovery. UGH! Just when I felt so good about my running. :-(

Martier,
If it is a cuboid that has dropped down and strained the capsule around the bones, a few (3-4) sessions of ultrasound and adjustments within 1-2 weeks should help a bunch. Did you want to try for Helvatia? Concentrated treatments can do wonders (3x this week). You may not be 100%, but likley you would be able to comlete the half marathon at 80% capacity. We can get you in this week if you need.
Cheers,

I went to the doctor yesterday and it looks like I have tendonitis and am out for a few weeks.
Do you have any suggestions for things I can do to rehab my foot? Also, is it possible to start
running again after an injury like this?

I wasn't able to run Helvetia but I ran 8 miles on Sunday. Now I have a swollen and bruised
ankle. I cannot put weight on it. It's not fractured but painful.
