On May 18th, in Prineville, Oregon, there will be a DUATHLON being hosted by Yellow Coach JR and Purple Coach, Allyson.
You do not have to be "super jock and jill" to complete in this event, as the event is divided into two major categories: (1) Walk - Bike - Walk
Distances of the walk = 2 miles, bike = 10 miles, walk = 2miles
the course will be in part of Prineville, leading out the "Crooked River Hwy" to a turn-around.
age group awards (3 deep), finisher medals, t-shirts and a meal following the event will be included in the $40 fee.
(2) Run - Bike - Run
Distances for the run = 3.1 miles, Bike = 40K (25 miles), Run = 3.1 miles

This is definately (ah, shucks) a small town flavored race, with many people signing up who have "never" competed in one of these type events. I would image there will be a high percentage of "mountain bikes" competing, because Central Oregon folks use mountain bikes over road bikes, (unless they are hard-core). Yes, there are quite a few hard core folks in multisport in Central Oregon, however, many will be competing the next day in Bends, Pole, Pedal, Paddle race.
JR and Allyson have worked very hard to set up a quality event, which will grow in the future, (we hope). You are welcome to enter and/or volunteer at an aide station. Either way, it is a beautiful way to spend a Sunday in May.
Hope to see some of you here.

by the way, using a bike around Prineville sometimes requires a thorn resistant tube because of an extremely sharp weed that frequently blows up on the roadways that act like little needles to tires. (a word to the wise would be to keep your heavy duty training wheels on your bike, and save your race-wheels, with the light-weight tubes, for another day.)
