I would like to request it be on a Sunday. I have used up all of my "Saturdays off" from work for Ironman training. If it needs to be on a Saturday could we make it at 3 p.m.?
Thanks for considering it
Randy
PS If you have never participated in this event it is a "must do". We all get together for a quick swim (maybe 400 yards?)
then about a 10 mile bike ride finishing up with a 2 mile run. Last year we had a potluck and a GREAT TIME! Friends and family are invited too.

Sunday's work great, as long as I know in advance. I have a lot of responsibility at my church and will need to make some arrangements. Last year we did it after Vancouver Fit's run/walk. Is that still doable for everyone? (The water will be a little warmer, right?!)

Count me in! I have to get out there and figure this whole thing out. And ugh, changing tires, isn't that why i make my husband enter the event with me? Then pout and cry on the sidelines until he stops and changes my tire for me? haha Just kidding!!! I do need to practice that soon. I've been shown how a couple times, but have never actually had to do it.

Well folks, we're already into May. Is it too late to put something together?! I still haven't seen a date posted. Here's what's left in May:
Sunday, May 11th- Mother's Day (Sorry, I'm not turning down brunch at the country club for a mock tri!)
Sunday, May 18th- Same day as the Crooked River Du so JR would be out. (I think I might like to do this, too...still on the fence.)
Sunday, May 25th- Memorial Day weekend. (I'm open but there could be potential conflicts.)
It's not a big deal if we don't do one. There's always next year!!

The bike route will have to change since the bridge has been closed.

It is sounding like Sunday, the 18th will work for most people. What would be a good time frame for everyone after Vancouver Fit?
Randy, would you like to map out a bike route? With the bridge closed it will need to be slightly different this year. If not, maybe April and I can take on that task.

Kathi, would you like to track the times again this year? If not, most people can use their own HR monitors.
I am sure everyone will be starving when we are done, so if each person could plan to bring a dish to share we can have a picnic of sorts afterward.
How does that sound ?

Byron and I are in for the Mock tri. Is the date final then for the 18th? If so, we'll make daycare arrangements. Byron is planning to do the Blue Lake tri in June so this will be a good practice for him. I'm just looking forward to figuring out the whole transition thing, changing a tire thing and wet suit thing! I'm so behind the ball on all of this. It will be an accomplishment just to do a tri this year, regardless of how well I do in it!

You know, it's a lot more complicated than the whole running thing!
I saw this shirt the other day that we all might need to buy!

It said "Oh, you ran a marathon....that's cute" hahaha! It was obviously intended for the triathlete audience!

Nope. I'm not going to share. It will be a suprise

JUST KIDDING
Here are the 2 routes that I propose.
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-state...on/706156327132http://www.mapmyride.com/walk/united-state...er/288995855253The 2nd ride has more climbing than the first. When I say climbing I mean WSU climbs and 50th Ave. climb. Nothing too bad. With the bridge out I thought that this would be the safest route to ride on a Sunday.

Second route looks good too, but how do you feel about staying off 50th all together? Safer? There'd also be no left turn at the bottom of the hill (3-way stop), and we could move with traffic at that "T" rather than having to cross to turn left. The straight through route (route #1) could be stated as a "foot-down" stop for everyone, so no blowing through the stop sign.

We wouldn't be coming down 50th we would be going up 50th on the 2nd route. Start at Klineline and turn left at the WSU main enterance. Climb and come through the campus to 50th. Continue East to 64th(or 62nd) and turn right. Follow westward to the bottom of Salmon Creek Ave and 50th. Turn right

and climb up 50th back to the East campus enterance. Go through campus, down the hill back to Salmon creek Ave. and out to 119th to Klineline. I know that we will have a few lefts this year but with the bridge being out we really can't get away from the turns.
What do you think?

ps..... yeah I know, no blowing through stop signs

May 12 2008, 12:27 PM
I got it. So at the eastern loop, we're going to continue east to make it a clockwise route.
Here's my gmap version with each mile indicated. This actually looks like a great route, being that you have 2 miles to warm up before the hill, then a couple of nice descents before heading back to climb at miles 6 through 7.5 and cruising on back in to the park.

You got it! I think that we will have a "course marshall" available to us on Sunday to help with directions.
I want to encourage everyone to print Doug's map and carry it with themselves Sunday. We lost 2 people last year on a route.
The weather is looking like it will be nice. Can I suggest that we start NO EARLIER than 11:30 please? We have Vanfit happening and I am giving the seminar this Sunday

so I can't leave early. Also depending on the weather can someone get to Klinline early and claim the "area" that we want to use for T1 and T2 ?

How about a start time of noon that way everyone can get there and get set up and no one will be eating lunch too late after the event
AC Marion
May 12 2008, 06:02 PM
Since Byron and I both will be participating, I need to secure daycare. Can I guess we would be done (even with the eating) by 3 pm if we start at noon? It doesn't necessarily matter how long, I just need to give her some idea so she can plan her day.
Thanks!

Looks like I'm going to miss this year's Mock Tri.
With two kids getting ready to audition for a dance company, our weekends are pretty busy. I've come to the realization that my kids are at that stage where their activities fill the calendar a lot more. I'm happy to put my stuff on the back burner, this is their time to figure out what they're good at and what they love to do. I'm thrilled that all three of my kids are very active and I hope that I've played a part in influencing their choices to be "do-ers" not "watch-ers".
You guys should have some awesome weather!! Hope you all have a great time!

We started at noon last year, and you're right, we will need to be there early enough to get that spot. I won't mind getting there around 10:30-11:00, but much earlier than that is going to be a long wait.

I'm planning on coming. My wife has a work event and I wanted to get babysitter confirmation before committing.
I will bring my laptop w/spare battery as I don't recall if there is power available. Kathi, I'll send you the spreadsheet (our very own Coach Eric's creation) to you ahead of time so you can play with it a bit.
