Hi All,

I am training for the Pacific Crest Olympic and am trying to learn more about which energy drinks and post workout drinks I should be taking. During PFIT training last year for the marathon, I used almost always Glukos with Gu Gel for my longer runs. Now with the biking, swim and run, not sure what you experts out there are liking? There seems to be a ton of options, so looking for some recommendations.

Thanks!
Jeff

Jeff,
Hydration on the swim never seems to be a problem for me. I swallow enough water on my own...smile.gif

On the bike, I think that those of us here using the Hammer Nutrition products are seeing intended results. Some of us are using HEED, some are using Perpetuem, and then others might be using a combination. I think you'll find agreeability amongst all of us that Hammer Gel not only works well as a slow-burn carb source, but comes in a variety of very palatable flavors.

On the run, I've been using NUUN as a hydration/electrolyte source, and supplementing with gel packs with a slower infusion. That means I take "small hits" off the packet throughout about a 30~40 minute period and chase it with NUUN. The lighter, crisper, less sweet taste of NUUN seems to work well in this combination. You can also mix the gel with NUUN.

Hammer's Endurolytes work well for cramping issues.

I think I can say that WE ALL agree on one recovery drink...Recoverite by Hammer.

Portland Running Company usually carries all the Hammer products as well as the Fueling Guide to read about the products and what their purpose and dosage is. You can also download a ton of info from Hammer's site at this link: Knowledge

As with anything new, try it out in training and racing simulation before your actual race day.

See ya at Pac Crest!

What he said... he's not just a member, he's the club president. Seriously though, Hammer products go down easier than anything else I've tried. I've used them for long rides, long runs, marathon training/racing, and duathlons.

Give them a try on your next long workout.
