I got a bike. I had it hanging in the garage 6weeks before I rode it.

Maiden voyage 1/1/2008. Ended up being about 20 miles w/ the last 10 in a fixed gear. My shifter broke and I could only shift in a higher gear. I quickly learned to stop doing that if I was going to make it back.

The ride was fun but tedious. I learned quite a bit. Legs would get tired but nothing compared to how sore my ass was. The seat that came w/ the bike was more like a splitting-maul for chopping wood. I had a small beanie only covering 1/2 my ears. That made the wind noise loud.

The bike is a Craigslist Special: 63cm Green Cannondale and it the chain would make a croaking sound as I pedaled.

I have to get the integrated shifter fixed before I can ride again. I bought a new seat, new beanie. Would love aero bars and a trainer.

I did Swim in October for 30-40 minutes. It's awesome in a pool b/c I can touch the bottom. How Deep is Hagg Lake/Blue Lake?

I'm helping a friend Refinance and I'm giving him a deal if he pays for my entry into Hawthorn Farms Sprint Tri. and does it with me. His nick name was Bubba. Bubba lost 80lbs. Doesn't apply as much. I could take over the moniker. If I weigh 250lbs and going down hill will I go faster that 150lbs dude pedaling same speed?

I'd like to be ranked in the Tri things for race center. How do I do that?
Do i have to register or just compete in certain events?

Tony
ps Sorry no bike porn. You'll have to take me out for a ride to see Big Green Frog. I hope I'm also amphibious

Tony ~ The reason the shifter broke is because you left it hanging in the garage for 6 weeks. Bike have a really huge mean streak in them, and they are so efficient at holding a grudge. They know that just when you've reached the farthest point from home, that's the best time to test your Tire Changing Survival Skills. And the colder your fingers, the harder they they make it to get the tire off. They also know how to harden up their seats if all else fails. Depending on what part of the county you bought that bike in, it very well could be a splitting maul.

Have you had the bike in to check things out? Good idea to do it now before the season comes along and you're wishing they'd hurry up and fix your bike so you could go out and ride with us.

As for the depth of Blue or Hagg Lake, they're both deeper than you are tall. How's that?

Concerning your speed downhill vs. the speed of the skinny guy. The answer is a big fat YES! Heck I do it all the time. And on the way by these guys, in my best "taunting & teasing" nanner-nanner schoolyard voice, I sing out "I have moooorrre FAT than youuuu!!" You just want to make sure it's the downhill to the finish line. Then all his friends and family see him getting beat at the finish by the "Husky" guy. biggrin.gif

Don't worry Tony, after each event, you'll be Rank. Oh, wait, you said "...be ranked..." Uh, yeah, just enter a bunch of events and let them tally up the points at the end of the year. Currently you have to race at least three events in the same discipline (three tris or three dus) to get a ranking total. If I remember correctly, those three events must also be the same distance. So you can't race one Sprint, one Half-Iron and one Olympic to get your three races tallied for points.

Looking forward to seeing you out there in the water or on the road. Helmet! Don't forget the Helmet!!

THIS SATURDAY.
VIRGIN IN THE WATER! VIRGIN IN THE WATER!
Somebody drag that carcass out of the pool and put it on a bike.

I don't wear glasses but if I did would transition lenses help me go faster?

I'm going to try to get 1:40 or faster.

I swam twice this month in preparation for this event. Man these training schedules are viciuos.

C'mon Big Green Frog! Hop to it.
Leaded legs don't fail me now.

I don't look good in spandex. If I got a $10,000 bike maybe that will compesate for lack of attractive physique.

Hawthorn Farms TRIATHLON....no longer on my list of things to do.

This event had some milestones:
The 4th time I've ridden my bike.
My 4th swim since october and 5th in 3 years.
My 1st Triathlon.

I'd tried to simulate transitions once before with Ted. That really helped.
My first was pretty good but could get faster. My 2nd was really fast b/c I ride in my running shoes.

My legs felt really funny after the ride. Calf cramped up 70yds out of the transition.
I couldn't ever get into a running groove. My breathing was shallow, I my legs were heavy and I was pushing as much as they'd let me.
I do like to "kick" at the end of events. I wasn't able to give it a good kick.
I felt if I did I would puke or dry-heave. Which is normal
My HRM wasn't working. I tried to wear it in the pool and that lasted 1 lap.
It didn't register a time after than. It's worked in the past.

This is a good event for anyone that's done the Helvetia Half marathon.
You're really familiar with the bike course and know when to plan and adjust for hills.

I'd like to do 2 more sprints this year to see if I can improve.
Haven't decided if I'll train for those or not.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE RUN DOUG RUN was there?
Have you seen Back to the Future? His bike is made out of AMC Dolorian parts. When he takes off it leaves fire on the pavement.
He was blazing a trail for me.

Tony,
It was so great to see you out there. Had I known (or maybe in my case, not forgotten) that you were doing your first Tri, I would've showed up earlier to cheer you on in Transition 1. I'm proud of you for taking the first step, and from the sounds of your excitement post-race, you really did enjoy yourself.

Fire on the pavement? Well maybe that's why only one guy had the nerve to pass me!?! wink.gif You're too kind!
