Full Version: Training This Week - Walking Sauvie Island on 4th

Okay, I guess I messed up by not looking ahead. Help coach! I did the 12 miles yesterday, but have also signed up to do the 1/2 marathon walking on Wednesday. Should I go ahead and do it, skip it in favor of the longer amount we are doing next Saturday. If I do do it, what exercise should I do on Monday and Tuesday? I need guidance.

How did you feel after your 12 mile walk on Saturday? How do you feel today? Is this your first year with Portland Fit? Did you come into the season with a good fitness base?

I'm sure some of the other coaches will pipe in, too, but I think you can walk the 1/2 on Wednesday as long as you feel good. You want to be careful about over-training and setting yourself up for injury. This really depends on where you are in your training.

Give us some more info!

I felt good, but tired after Saturday's walk. I usually take a nap sometime in the afternoon after long walks. I am fairly fit, but joined Portland Fit for motivation and a regular routine. I used to go to 24Hr Fitness, but they moved out of our area. Yoga hurt my degenerative neck, so I've mainly walked and lifted light weights at home.

Becky, I think the bottom line is you know your body best and you should listen to it and TRUST what it is telling you! If you decide to walk the 1/2, I would definitely take Tuesday off (and hopefully if you walked today, you took it nice and easy).

Because of some other health issues, I haven't been walking regularly in the past 3 weeks. I walked the 12 miles on Sunday VERY SLOW, and ended up taking a 2 hour nap afterward. Very sore hamstrings today but they feel a lot better after Pilates class tonight. I'm walking the Sauvie Island 1/2 on Wednesday. If you decide to do it, watch for the Portland Fit shirts! I know a few of us will be out there Wednesday. I'm going to wear my coaches shirt because I like the message of "No Whining"!!! (And it is blue, which is very patriotic paired with my red hat...)
