There's a fun 1/2 Marathon on Sauvie's Island on the Fourth of July. You end with strawberry shortcake!

Since I can't do the 12 miles this weekend, I signed up for this. Sounds like fun and a flat course sounds like a good idea also.

Remember to car pool, I think in all the races I have been, this traffic is the worst. Have fun, its a great run. That sounds like a good idea instead of running my 12 miles, hmmm.....

I just registered for this last night! Nothing like a last minute decision of "Hmm you know, I think I'll run a half marathon on Wednesday". smile.gif

I've been doing speed training so I'm hoping for a PR....BUT for some reason my first year with Portland Fit I managed to run Helvatia in 2:08 and I HAVE NO IDEA HOW! So, now I have to figure out how to recreate that on a flat course and come in sub 2 hours! smile.gif hehe I was nowhere in the same shape that I am in now, so I have no idea how I ran as fast as I did. However, I do remember that I felt like CRAP at the finish line so I guarantee I didn't run it in a good heart rate zone and couldn't have run a mile farther if I needed to. I hope to NOT recreate that feeling! smile.gif

Good luck to all runners and walkers! What a great way to celebrate the 4th!

Anyone want to CARPOOL to Sauvie Island Flat 1/2.

I will be running it.
I have to sign-up Day of Race. So I want to get there early for 6:15 registration.
I can take 3-4 others comfortably.

I will be done running at 2:00:00 hrs. That's all of the effort I've budgetted for this event. so I can either run fast or bonk but at 2hrs I'm done. Makes me excited that I don't have anything to lose.

ps. call 503-809-7360 to confirm plans. I live in SW Tigard area.

Good to carpool to this one -- they do a great job with traffic control, but access is limited by the bridge so get there early.

Last time I did this race they gave out beer at the finish, too, with a very nice finish area.

Be prepared for sun and heat. There's little shade on the course so be ready. Also make sure to carry some water or sports drink because water stations are spaced apart and you don't want to run dry.

This is a gem of an event -- we're lucky to have two half marathons (this one and Helvetia) so close to each other in the Portland racing calendar.

Hey Marion - I'm also registered for the 1/2 tomorrow. I don't know how it's going to go (I've missed a few runs lately...), but will give it what I've got. I will look for you - if I don't see you have a great run!

I am thinking about running this tomorrow - is anyone wanting to carpool from Vancouver area? Obviously I haven't registered yet, so I would need to get there early.

Hope it went well for you all! I would like to do this one someday myself.
