hey folks,

i missed helvetia due to injury, but am contemplating running sauvie island instead on the 4th of july (wed). are there others doing the same thing? if so, how are you adjusting your schedule? we have a 12 miler on the 30th, and a 9 miler on the 7th, and the 25K benchmark on the 14th. i was thinking of doing 6-7 easy miles both on the 30th and the 7th, instead of the 12 and 9, and also not running tuesday the 3rd and thursday the 5th. does that sound like a reasonable plan?

rolleyes.gif I was having the same thought, because Sauvie Island looks like fun. Your idea sounds good to me - any other Portland/Vancouver fitters planning on doing it? Coaches - any advice on altering the schedule?

This sounds like a good approach to me.

Hi there!

I'm planning on running this one too. I haven't thought a lot about my schedule, but your plan sounds really good. I'll probably take it easy both this weekend and next and make sure I'm wearing my HRM. I'll run Monday the 2nd and take Tuesday off as well.

I'm looking forward to a flat half - I feel like it's been forever since I've run one without grueling time killing hills!

See ya out there!

Hi there!

I'm a newbie walker and walked the Helvatia. I am planning on doing the Sauvies Island Half also. So, do ya'll recommend a similar schedule for us walkers and you runners?

Also, I am thinking of concentrating on doing just Half's this year and reevaluating next year for the full marathon. What do you recommend for a training schedule, ie....in regards to the bench mark walks?

Any advise you have is much appreciated!

I'm totally excited about doing half marathons this year. I really have decided against doing the full marathon. I'm planning on doing Sauvie Island, and then perhaps Champoeg.

I'm so excited to hear others are doing this... I missed Helvetia too and just signed up for this. Let's wear our pfit shirts so we can root each other on!

For those of you more interested in half marathons, you might want to check out this site: http://www.half2run.com/. Motto: half the marathon in half the states (for those of you who still haven't had your morning coffee, that's 25 half marathons in 25 states).

I signed up for this a couple of years ago, and have been traveling around doing halfs ever since (I'm currently at 19 states). I still do full marathons, but for me, running halfs gives me a nice break from time to time, and I also incorporate them into my full marathon training schedule (probably not recommended for newbies, but it gives you something to look forward to down the road).

There is no time limit to get your 25 states, and both runners and walkers are welcome. There's also a great schedule of half marathons, so it give you some tempting ideas laugh.gif Have fun whatever you decide to do.
