I'm breaking in a new pair of shoes (I've done about 20 miles in them so far), and today I developed a blister on the pad of my right big toe. I did 5.5 miles tonight, and it definitely hurts to walk on this blister, even in my cushy adidas recovery sandals. What now!? Should I go back to my old shoes? Take two days off? Try different socks?

Thanks for any suggestions - I'm still learning a LOT about running! rolleyes.gif

I purchased some WrightSocks (you can get them at zappos.com, REI, and some running stores). They're well known for their ability to prevent blisters due to the two thin layers. I like the pairs I got. They snag easily, so treat them well.

You'll want to keep the current blister covered while it heals.

It is important to make sure that not only your sock is not bunching up at the toe, but also check to see if there is a wrinkle or flaw in the shoe or insert. Look for any defect that may casue extra friction. As with starting anything new, you will build calluses on surfaces that are not use to being used. Wash and cover the blisters and they will build calluses. Also try a blister ointment that the PRC carries (stop by their tent). You should also check and make sure that you shoes fit properly. PRC can help you there as well.
I hope that helps.
