During our training season (late February – early October), we offer group runs/walks at Portland Running Company in Beaverton on Saturday mornings. Members are encouraged to attend all/most sessions as attendance is directly correlated to the achievement of your fitness goals. For more information about our training season and our program, please visit our Programs page.
Training Questions
Unfortunately, we are unable to answer training questions via email. With over 1,000 members, we hope you understand. But we do want to answer all your questions. The best answers come in person when you talk one-on-one with your Head Coach or Assistant Coach. So come out to our group runs/walks on Saturdays and we’ll stay until we answer all your questions. Thanks for understanding! And don’t forget to read our How to Portland Fit page.

Hi,
I trained with Portland Fit for 2 years and think it is a great program. Because of time constraints I now walk with a few friends every Saturday instead of with Portland Fit, but what I learned with Portland Fit still sticks with me.
I am the captain of a Portland To Coast team this year and we are in need of 4 female walkers 50 years old or older. If you know any women that meet this profile who would like to be on a team please let me know. Feel free to share my email address with them.
Thank you,
Lori Larson

You might send an email to Celia at PortlandFit dot com -- she'll know some walkers that might want to participate!

Hi there,
I signed up for Portland Fit in late Feb/early March. I had been training with the group for a few weeks up until I injured my knee and now I am taking it easy, running-wise. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is another way I can take advantage of my Portland Fit membership, even if I am unable to participate in the weekly group runs (which I was truly enjoying!).
Thanks!
Katie

Sorry you've been hurt! But thanks for the question. We are working on a new social activity, but planning is still underway on that one. More soon hopefully. We do look for volunteers to help out at benchmarks and those happen once a month now until the marathon. Our first benchmark was the Helvetia Half (where we still had volunteers manning the aid station), but now we put on our own benchmarks for the 25K, 30K, and 21 miler. The more volunteers the better for those as we create aid stations, post folks at intersections for added safety, and set up things at the finish. And don't forget that you can always show up around 9am, see your friends run or walk in, and be first in line at the chiropractic tent for a free massage. :)
When you do get back to running, come out on Saturday morning and just run a shorter route. You can start with your group and just turn around early if that works. Good luck and stay fit!

Hi John, thanks so much for your response. In fact I have started running again, working up to about 3 miles, and my knee feels so much better, but since there is still some pain my doctor ordered an xray and told me to stop running. We’ll see where that goes.
But yes, I love volunteering! I was out there for Helvatia and I’m interested in doing it for future events… I think I’ll contact Celia about that.
Thanks again,
Katie

When I got to this site 10 minutes ago, I swear I found something saying that full-marathon training started on march 31st at Con-way. Now I can’t find that or anything that clearly indicates when training starts or where. I see the chart type thing, which makes it appear that training starts February 23rd. I’m confused, obviously.
Thanks,
Chris

This year everybody starts on the same day -- February 23rd at 8am at PRC-Beaverton. There is just one planned schedule and group. Half-marathoners start on Saturday, Feb 23 and we do our first half marathon at the Rock n Roll in May. At that point, you have a decision to make. You can stick to half marathons and do Helvetia plus any number of summer Halfs (including the Portland Marathon Half in October). In that case, just don't do our super-long Benchmark days (15 miles, 18 miles, and 21 miles). If you want to do the full Marathon, you would do the benchmark days. See you on February 23!

I thought I saw something about registration discounts for Portland Fit members, but now I can’t find it. Was that just wishful thinking on my part? Thank you!

Yes, there is a $10 discount. See our JOIN page for info at http://www.portlandfit.com/join . The code says it expires on 2/13, but... it might still work for a bit today. Enter EARLY in the discount code section and don't forget to hit the APPLY button. If you don't apply it, you won't get the discount.

Hi — Is there still a discount for the Helvetia Half as a Portland Fit member? I thought I saw something one of the websites? Run with Paula?
Thanks
Janet

Are the t-shirts for the Portland Marathon still coming? I haven’t been able to run with the group for the last two Saturdays.
