10 Noteworthy Health & Fitness Apps for 2016

As USA FIT Portland gears up for a fresh start and a new season in 2016, our coaches and organizer are already on the lookout for the best health and fitness apps to complement training and make it more enjoyable. While there are a few repeats from 2015, here’s the rundown on the best apps to up your health and fitness game in 2016 and help you reach your fitness goals.

  1. Charity Miles

Charity Miles

With the help of several corporate sponsors, earn money for charities while running, walking, or biking. The app is free, and every mile donates a few cents towards one of the worthy charities listed in the app.  Choose a charity, and hit the road to make your training really count.

2. Pact

Pact

Cash in on your workouts and earn a little extra money for your time, by downloading Pact (formerly Gympact). App users bet money on whether or not you’ll stick to your guns and complete your workout.  If you finish your workout, you earn some cash – but if you chicken out, you’ll have to pay up.  It’s a great way to stay accountable and creates added incentive to get up and get moving.

3. RockMyRun

RockMyRun

It can be annoying to flip through music to find a song that helps you put some pep in your step. This app takes the work out of finding that perfect song.  RockMyRun matches your heart rate or your footfalls to the tempo of different music and adjusts the songs accordingly.  It’s a great app for exploring new music and adding a unique aspect to your daily run/walk.

If you love competition, this app is for you. Challenge other app users to fitness duels, or compete against yourself to scratch that competitive itch.

5. Plant Nanny

Good hydration is important, but becomes even more essential when training. Plant Nanny helps users track their water intake to make sure that they’re properly hydrated.

6. Wholesome

Wholesome

Track your macro and micro nutrients with the Wholesome app to really get down to the nitty gritty nutrition details and make sure your body has what it needs to refuel.

7. Zombies, Run!

Zombies, Run

This fun app takes you through a narrative full of twists and turns and of course – ZOMBIES! This app allows you to change certain settings to give you a more interactive experience so that there’s never a dull moment while you run.

8. MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal

MyFitness Pal is not exactly a new app, but a great app that assists users in maintaining the diet portion of a healthy lifestyle. Users can track calorie intake, calories burned, and join up with friends to help stay accountable on their fitness journey.  This amazing app also allows you to look up certain grocery store staples to help avoid some of the guesswork that can occur when trying to make better food choices.

9. MySugr

MySugr

Sugar peaks and pits can really wreck your day by making you feel tired, cranky, and sometimes even hangry. Keep track of, and regulate your sugar intake to really get a handle on the sweet and sugary parts of your diet.  This app can also help you to discover and eliminate hidden sources of sugar in your every day diet to increase your overall health and well-being.

Flipp

Eating well and being healthy can be expensive. Get the most bang for your buck with Flipp.  Flipp users enter their zip code, and the app gathers all of the grocery deals and coupons in your area.
