Profile: Asst Coach Lisa

AC Lisa Gilbertson trains with the Yellow group on Sundays in Tualatin. Once she headed out for a run and ended up in a Mexican police station. Wait a minute, what? This is her first year coaching with Portland Fit and she has completed two marathons.

Favorite marathon:
Portland

Biggest obstacle you face in training:
Time. I run a physical therapy clinic and have small children

PR:
My 1/2 PR is 1:54

What motivates you to keep going when the going gets tough?
Thinking about people who have a disability and struggle to even move

Best advice you’ve ever received:
I had plantar fasciitis last year at marathon time and a patient who is an excellent marathoner suggested I run 9 min, walk 1 min for the whole course. That’s what I did and though my time wasn’t as good as I’d hoped for, I made it with little foot pain!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen while out on a run?
The inside of a Mexican police station. I got lost in Mexico while running.

Of all your running gear, which piece is your favorite?
My bright blue/green running shorts.

Any accolades or running-related recognition you’d like to share?
Having people to run with at Pdx Fit is the only way I would have ever been able to run a marathon! Never thought I’d be training to run another one. Last year I did it to prove my step-son wrong (he said I couldn’t) and here I am again this year.
